Tackling Cyber Disinformation: Prof. Andrzej Misiuk Brings the IKONA Project to SIM

The Swiss Institute of Management and Sciences (SIMS) is proud to announce an exciting upcoming collaboration with Professor Andrzej Misiuk, a highly respected authority in the fields of internal security and disinformation research. Professor Misiuk, who leads the Department of Internal Security at the University of Warsaw, is at the forefront of groundbreaking work with the IKONA Project—an ambitious initiative dedicated to combating cyber disinformation. The project focuses on identifying, collecting, and assessing hostile disinformation campaigns in cyberspace, using cutting-edge Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools.

    About the IKONA Project

The IKONA Project is an integral component of the broader “CyberSecIdent – Cybersecurity and e-Identity” program, which seeks to address the evolving challenges of digital security in today’s interconnected world. The primary goal of the IKONA Project is to create a scalable, real-time information system that can efficiently process vast amounts of unstructured data—commonly referred to as Big Data. By harnessing the power of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, machine learning techniques, and sophisticated methodologies from operational research and statistics, the project is developing an intelligent system capable of detecting fake news and other forms of malicious content online.

One of the project’s core objectives is to provide an automated and proactive solution for responding to disinformation in real-time. This includes a range of countermeasures, such as content blocking, dissemination of factual counter-narratives, and enabling legal actions against perpetrators of disinformation. The potential applications of the IKONA system are vast, including its ability to monitor and mitigate the spread of disinformation across social media platforms, news outlets, and other digital spaces where public trust is at risk.

    Professor Andrzej Misiuk’s Background

Professor Andrzej Misiuk has been an influential figure in the academic and research communities since 1983. His extensive career in the study of internal security and disinformation has made him a prominent expert in the field. His areas of expertise include the history of police institutions and special services in Poland, as well as the functioning and evolution of internal security systems at both national and European levels.

In 2005, Professor Misiuk played a key role in the establishment of a pioneering university course in Internal Security, aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the complex security challenges of the modern world. In 2010, his work was instrumental in the formal recognition of security sciences as an academic discipline in Poland. His contributions to the field were further acknowledged in 2008, when he was awarded the title of Professor of Humanities by the President of the Republic of Poland. Professor Misiuk’s career is marked by a deep commitment to the development of internal security frameworks, both in Poland and internationally.

    Upcoming Presentation at SIMS

As part of this collaboration, Professor Misiuk will be presenting the findings and developments of the IKONA Project to the academic community at SIMS. This highly anticipated presentation will offer valuable insights into the challenges and solutions related to cyber disinformation, shedding light on the sophisticated tools and methodologies being developed to combat the spread of false information in the digital age.

Professor Misiuk’s presentation will provide SIMS students and faculty with the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research in cybersecurity, disinformation detection, and digital media ethics. The event will highlight the importance of innovation and interdisciplinary approaches in tackling one of the most pressing issues of our time: the fight against malicious content and the erosion of trust in digital information.

SIMS’s Commitment to Advancing Research and Education

The collaboration between Professor Misiuk and SIMS represents a key moment in the Institute’s ongoing commitment to offering its students and faculty access to the latest research and expertise in critical areas of study. By fostering partnerships with leading academics and researchers, SIMS continues to provide its academic community with opportunities to engage with innovative ideas and solutions that address global challenges.

We eagerly look forward to Professor Misiuk’s presentation and the enriching discussions that will follow. His pioneering work with the IKONA Project promises to inspire new perspectives and foster deeper understanding in the ongoing battle against cyber disinformation. This event marks an exciting opportunity for the SIMS community to be at the forefront of global efforts to ensure the integrity of information in an increasingly digital world.
